Our tea

I want to congratulate the writer M.M. Rahman for his letter on “Sylhet Tea” or “Bangladesh Tea”. There is no tea growing area in the UK, we know that. Right?
It has long been my suspicion that most of the British tea is our tea probably mixed with other lesser quality tea having names like "English Breakfast Tea", "Earl Grey", "Bigelow" and " Lipton Tea" etc. and they cleverly call it "blended tea". Indeed it is. That is what is known as "branding".
Once the buyer knows the particular brand they do not usually know, or care, where the product originated. While we market any reasonable product from Bangladesh, we have to overcome various hurdles, but there is probably scope for the ultimate “Sylhet Tea” or “Bangladesh Tea”.
