Six killed in road accidents
Six people were killed in separate road accidents in Kushtia and Dhaka yesterday.
Our correspondent in Kushtia reports: Five people were killed in two separate road accidents in Kushtia yesterday.
At about 8:45am, a Rajshahi-bound passenger bus from Kushtia lost control and hit a microbus that was standing on the roadside. The microbus in turn hit a rickshaw van at Bahalbaria in Mirpur upazila on Kushtia-Bheramara highway, killing four people on the spot.
The deceased were identified as Kohinoor, 6, her sister Kulsum, 11, Sohel, 18, and van puller Sukur Ali, 45.
Locals put up a barricade on the road for two hours that caused immense traffic congestion on the highway.
In another accident, a housewife was killed when a speeding Nosimon (human hauler) hit her at Kadirpur Bazar at about 2:30pm while she was crossing the road.
The victim was identified as Rozina, 40.
Our staff correspondent adds: A physician of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology was killed in a road accident at Karwan Bazar in the city yesterday morning.
The victim was identified as Mohammad Abdur Rob, 60, a resident of Sukrabad.
The victim's son Dr Saidul Haque said a bus knocked his father down while he was crossing Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue at about 9:00am.
Locals rushed Rob to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
