Kashmir separatists to visit Pakistan for talks with new regime
Leaders of Indian Kashmir's moderate separatist alliance will visit Pakistan next month for talks with the newly elected government there, a leading separatist said yesterday.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, head of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, told AFP his delegation would meet top members of the Pakistani leadership after receiving a letter of invitation from foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
"We have received an invitation from the government of Pakistan. We will be going next month," said Farooq, who is also the chief cleric at Kashmir's main mosque.
The letter requests Farooq and his delegation visit Pakistan "at mutually convenient dates in June 2008 for consultation and meetings with the leadership of Pakistan."
"We look forward to extending a warm welcome to you in Pakistan," according to the letter shown to AFP.
