Roma coaches in action
The YKK-Roma project kicked off yesterday at the BUET ground in the city with Italian Serie A club AS Roma's coaching panel trading the secret of the game to local football coaches.
The main goal of the YKK Corporate Social Responsibility project, however, is to run football clinics for children and about 300 kids from 14 schools will join the two-day 'Just for Kicks' project today.
The project, which was inaugurated in Singapore in 2007, witnessed over 400 children put through the paces by coaches brought over from Japan.
The resounding success has prompted YHA (YKK Holdings Asia) to bring the project to other regions where the world's leading fastening manufacturer has business presence.
The coaching staff includes former Roma legend and AC Milan defender Maurizio 'Ramon' Turone, and former footballer Mauro Zironelli.
YHA plans to make this an annual event as it values the importance of constantly contributing to the society.
"It is important for YKK to contribute and work with local community. I believe that this event will bring great joy to all the children in Bangladesh. We want to support their growth through this football event," said the Ken Nakano, MD of YHA at a press briefing at a local hotel yesterday.
Having run the AS Roma Campus globally, Ramon Turone admitted that this would be a different challenge for his coaching team because of barriers such as language and culture, but admits that his team is looking forward to the project.
"We have never conducted football clinics in Bangladesh or Indonesia for the matter. We know there's a huge support for AS Roma as a club in Asia and this will be great opportunity for us to reach out to local communities in the respective countries.
"We will teach the kids to play football the Italian way," added the head coach of the project who will lead his party to Indonesia from here.
Bangladesh Football Federation vice-presidents Shawkat Ali Khan Jahangir and Kazi Nabil Ahmed were also present at the briefing.
