AS Roma coaches in town
A four-member delegation from Serie A club AS Roma arrived in Dhaka yesterday to run coaching workshops in the city.
This is a part of YKK Holding's (Asia) corporate social responsibility project in the continent and Roma, who finished runners-up in this season's Italian league, happily accepted the offer to send their coaching staff to Bangladesh.
"We are here to teach advanced level of football to experts in Bangladesh and promote Roma," said Maurizio 'Remon' Turone, head coach of the project and technical director of AS Roma schools in Asia and Oceania.
"We feel we've got certain responsibilities towards the development of the beautiful game and we happily accepted the YKK's proposal to come here.
"I admit there is cultural and language barriers here but it is a challenge for us to work here. It is a chance to get to the people and promote our club," added Turone, a former defender of Italian giants Roma (1979-83) and AC Milan Turone's assistants are former footballer Mauro Zironelli, now a coach and scout in Asia and Oceania, Morris Pagniello and Joe Di Martino.
The workshop will start with 30 senior local coaches (mostly with C-Licence) at the BUET ground this afternoon. The delegation will conduct "Just for kicks' -- a two-day football clinic with youngsters (10-14 years) at the same venue from tomorrow where the kids will be introduced to 'football Italian style'.
