Khaleda's advice to party leaders
As the reformist group is hopeful of reunification of BNP, Chairperson Khaleda Zia has advised the party leaders to take any decision in this regard in consultation with Secretary General Khandkar Delwar Hossain.
The advice came when three lawyers met Khaleda in the sub-jail yesterday afternoon for consultation on the corruption cases against her.
Advocate Shimul Biswas and advocate Azam Khan later told the news agency that Khaleda expressed deep concern over the cases against her and her sons. She termed the cases false and fabricated.
Advocate Nasiruddin was also present during the meeting.
"BNP chairperson has demanded immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the cases for the sake of the nation and democracy… The cases have no legal basis," said her counsel Azam Khan.
He said Khaleda also expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of her sons Tarique Rahman and Arafat Rahman Koko. "She has again demanded that the government send her sons abroad for better treatment."
The lawyers said they discussed with her the Niko, Gatco and Barapukuria graft cases and the latest charge sheet against Tarique Rahman in Sabbir murder case. She advised them to fully prepare for dealing with the cases.
"We informed her of the latest arrests of three BNP stalwarts and Jamaat ameer in Gatco scam case, but she did not make any comment," said advocate Azam.
