FBCCI urges Turkish to invest in Bangladesh
FBCCI President Annisul Huq yesterday urged a visiting Turkish delegation to convey the message for their potential investors to invest in Bangladesh, where the investment policy is very transparent and favorable.
“Investment policy in Bangladesh is very transparent for investing in the country's Export Processing Zones,” he said during a meeting with the Turkish delegation at the Federation Bhaban.
The Turkish delegation consists of three members of Parliament -- Huseyin Tugeu, M Hanifi Avir and Ayhan Yilmaz, general secretary of a Turkish NGO Celal Ferruh Yucel and president of Turkish-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TBCCI) Fikret Cicek.
Referring to the World Bank's evaluation of investment destinations, president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Annisul Huq mentioned that Bangladesh have been ranked as the 11th country for investment in the world.
He said Turkey is a textile-based country in Europe, but it imports textile products from Bangladesh. Bangladesh's textile exports to Turkey amounted to US$ 150 million in last fiscal year.
The FBCCI president also mentioned that the balance of payment between Turkey and Bangladesh remains in favour of Bangladesh.
Speaking at the function with the help of a translator from the Turkish Embassy in Dhaka, Turkish MP Huseyin Tugeu said people of Turkey and Bangladesh are very close befitting the two brotherly people practicing the same religion.
He recalled that people of Bangladesh had extended their support during the liberation war of Turkey in 1920.
Tugeu, who is the head of the delegation, termed Bangladesh a democratic, secular society and said: “In our three days' experience, we've observed that Bangladesh people are very loyal, democratic and hospitable.”
He called for sending country's smart and prospective students to Turkey for taking “a high standard of education” there. “Many Pakistani students are studying in Turkey, but the number of Bangladeshi students is small. I hope, the number will increase,” he said.
Tugeu also invited the business leaders of the country to visit Turkey and share the experiences for the development of both countries.
First vice president of FBCCI Abul Kashem Ahmed and FBCCI vice president Abu Alam Chowdhury, and directors Belayet Hossain, Kamal Uddin Ahmed and Abdul Haque were, among others, present at the meeting.
