Anwar gets green signal

Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) yesterday gave green signal to British footballer of Bangladeshi descent Anwar Uddin to play for the national team.
Anwar, 26, called on BFF president Kazi Salahuddin at his office yesterday afternoon and received an offer from the football chief to play for Bangladesh.
BFF member Fazlur Rahman Babul, who had invited English League II defender Anwar for the trip to Bangladesh to visit the youth academy under the auspices of Canary Wharf, UK, said that Salahuddin has given him the responsibility to take care of the whole matter.
"Anwar wishes to play too and Salahuddin has welcomed him. Anwar will seek permission of his club Dagenham and Redbridge and the English FA while we will apply to the FIFA for his registration as a Bangladeshi player," Babul told.
It would take some time to complete the formalities and it seems Anwar, who is in the middle of a six-week recovery period from injury, would not be able to play in next month's SAFF Championship.
"It would make my father very happy," Anwar told after his meeting with Salahuddin.
Canary Wharf, UK, official Zakir Khan, who was present, has also offered BFF help from Bangladeshi expatriates in England for different development projects.
