Man dies in queue for OMS rice
An elderly man died at Basupara under Sonadanga thana when he stood for over an hour under scorching heat in a long queue for buying rice under the open market sale (OMS) programme at about 11am yesterday.
The dead is Durjon Sarder, 65, a night guard by profession. He was declared dead when taken to a local clinic.
Distribution of rice under OMS at Basupara was suspended following death of Durjon who hailed from Chandkhali union under Paikgachha upazila.
Abdur Rouf Sarder, son of the deceased alleged that his father had never been able to buy rice from this OMS shop for the last one month due to irregularities in the distribution system.
