Wheat purchase proposal rejected
The Advisers Committee on Public Procurement yesterday rejected a tender proposal of Food Directorate for procuring 43,000 metric tons of wheat, saying that the government stock of wheat is good.
The food ministry placed the proposal in the wake of high prices of wheat flour on the domestic market alongside price hike of rice.
After the meeting of the advisers' committee, Finance Adviser Mirza Azizul Islam told reporters that the wheat stock in government storage is good and that wheat price on the international market is "downward".
”So, in overall consideration of the situation, we have decided not to approve the tender offer as the offered price of wheat was found to be little bit higher," he said.
The committee approved another tender proposal placed by the power ministry for rehabilitation works for the unit 4 and 5 of the Karnaphuli hydroelectric plant.
The Japanese Marubeni Corporation was the responsive bidder, quoting Tk 139.97 crore for the works. Marubeni installed the plant in 1998.
The committee also approved a proposal of the industries ministry for procurement of 12,000 metric tons of rock sulphur for BCIC fertiliser plants at a cost of Tk 91.61 crore.
A proposal of education ministry for appointing a consulting firm for its Secondary Education Sector Development Project failed to get the nod of the committee as the proposal was found to have some flaws.
The committee asked the education ministry to submit the proposal again after necessary correction.
