Passengers escape train accident

Several hundred passengers narrowly escaped a train accident yesterday morning as eight fishplates and 24 nuts were stolen from the rail line at Pukuria under Netrakona pourashava on Friday night.
Train communication remained snapped for at least three hours.
Shamganj Railway Office Sub-Assistant Engineer Mohammad Giasuddin said eight fishplates and 24 nuts were stolen from Mymensingh-Netrakona-Mohonganj rail line.
The act of stealing fishplates and nuts came to the notice of some local cowboys while cutting grass near the rail line.
Meanwhile, the Mohonganj-bound local passenger train left the Netrakona Court Station at 7:30am. Sensing an imminent accident, the cowboys made a big hue and cry and hoisted a red flag. The driver of the train, however, managed to halt the train.
The sub-assistant engineer filed a case with Mymensingh GRP Station. None was arrested in this connection.
