4 new UGC members take over

Newly appointed four members of the University Grants Commission (UGC) took over yesterday.
They are Prof Amena Begum of physics department, Dhaka University, Prof Tazul Islam of economics department, Jahangirnagar University, Prof Zihadul Karim of anthropology department, Rajshahi University, and Prof Abdul Hakim of political science department, Chittagong University.
They replaced Prof Faisul Islam Farouqui, Prof M Mahbub Ullah, Prof Sultan Hossain and Prof Tareque Shamsur Rahman who resigned in the first week of this month following a request from the education ministry.
UGC sources said the caretaker government appointed the four members for the next four years as part of ongoing reforms of the UGC.
