Road accidents kill 8, injure 57
At least eight people were killed and 57 others injured in separate road accidents in Pabna, Rangpur, Rajbari, Sirajganj, Lalmonirhat and Khagrachhari yesterday and on Tuesday night.
Our correspondent from Pabna adds: At least two people were killed and 10 others injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Pabna highway at village Puthigari under Ataikula Police Station yesterday.
The accident took place.
The dead were identified as Lal Miah, 50, son of Suruj Ali of village Sahapur and Mojahar, 70, son of Dhalu Sheikh of village Raghunatpur in Pabna.
Police and the locals said the accident occurred at about 1:30pm when a Sirajganj-bound passenger bus collided head-on with a CNG-run passenger vehicle as its driver lost his control over the steering.
Lal Miah died on the spot while Mojahar succumbed to his injuries at Pabna General Hospital.
Of the injured, Asadul, 14, Atik, 15, Ranju, 31, Beauty, 22, and Rajib, 25, were rushed to Pabna General Hospital in critical condition. All the dead and the injured were the passengers of the CNG-run vehicle, police said.
Police seized the bus while its driver managed to escape.
Our correspondent from Rangpur reports: Two passengers of a BRTC bus were killed and 20 others injured in a road accident on Rangpur-Kurigram highway at Kounia yesterday.
Police identified one of the dead as Razia Begum, 40, of BDR Hat in Lalmonirhat.
Witnesses said the accident occurred a Barisal-bound BRTC bus collided with a Rajshahi-bound bus. The BRTC bus fell into a roadside ditch, leaving, Razia Begum dead on the spot while an unidentified youth succumbed to his injuries on the way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
UNB from Rajbari adds: Two people were killed and another was injured when a taxicab turned upside down on Daulatdia-Khulna highway at Nimtala in Sadar upazila on Tuesday midnight.
Police said the accident occurred when a vehicle hit a Dhaka-bound taxicab from Satkhira at about 12:30am, killing its driver and passenger on the spot.
The dead were identified as driver Zakir Hossain, 35, of Bhandaria in Pirojpur district and passenger Lutfar Rahman, 50, of Goalundo upazila of Rajbari.
Another passenger Sanaullah, brother-in-law of Zakir, was admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital in an unconscious state.
Our Correspondent from Sirajganj adds: An elderly man was crushed under the wheels of bus on the Dhaka-Bogra highway in the Sayedabad area in Sirajganj yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Hazrat Ali, 60, of Mohanpur in Ullapara upazila of the district.
Police and witnesses said the accident occurred at 5:00 pm when a bus from Dhaka crushed him when he was crossing the road.
Police sent the body to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.
Our correspondent from Lalmonirhat adds: One person was killed and at least 25 others were injured in a road accident on Rangpur- Kurigram RK road in the Mostofihat Kalirpat area of Sadar upazila yesterday.
The dead was identified as Abed Ali, 40, of village Bader Kuti in Kurigram district.
The injured were rushed to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital and Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Of them, condition of Rahim Uddin, 56, Khalekur Rahamn, 32, Salma Begum, 25, Rehana Khatun, 20, was stated to be critical, Lalmonirhat hospital sources said.
Police and witnesses said the accident occurred when a Kurigram-bound passenger bus from Dhaka fell into a roadside ditch at Mostofi Kalirhat when its driver was trying to overtake a truck.
Our correspondent from Khagrachhari says: One person was injured seriously in a road accident in the Nenchi Bazar area under Sadar upazila yesterday.
The injured was identified as Mohammad Fakhrul Islam 41, a businessman of Khagrachhari Bazar.
Police said the accident occurred at about 5:00pm when a Khagrachhari-bound passenger taxi hit Fakhrul.
Fakhrul was rushed to Khagrachhari Adhunik Sadar Hospital in a critical condition.
