Stephen Evans new British envoy in Dhaka
Stephen Nicholas Evans has been appointed the next British High Commissioner to Bangladesh.
He succeeds Anwar Choudhury who will be completing his four-year tenure to Dhaka shortly.
According to an announcement made by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in London yesterday, Evans will take up his appointment in Dhaka in June this year.
A press release from the British High Commission in Dhaka said Anwar Choudhury would shortly be completing his four-year tenure as British High Commissioner to Bangladesh.
Choudhury, whose position in Bangladesh had been extended by a year in April 2007, has been confirmed in his new appointment to a critical senior diplomatic position at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London.
Evans, a highly experienced and accomplished diplomat with in-depth experience of South Asia, has previously served as British Ambassador to Afghanistan and British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka. He has also served as the Head of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office's South Asia Department.
Stephen Evans CMG, OBE is married to Sharon Ann and has two children.
Prior to his appointment in Bangladesh, Evans served as Director of Afghanistan Information Strategy in FCO. He has also served in the British missions in Islamabad, Ankara, Bangkok and Hanoi.
