Anti-corruption rally in Ctg tomorrow
Anti-Corruption Committee (ACC), Chittagong city unit will take out a grand procession in the port city tomorrow for creating mass awareness against corruption.
ACC Chairman Lt Gen (retd) Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury is scheduled to lead the procession that will start from Jamiaatul Falah Complex at around 10:00am.
Director of ACC Chittagong Major Zulfikar Ali Mazumder at a press conference yesterday said around 40000 people from different professions are expected to participate at the procession.
He said active response and cooperation from mass people and social initiatives are essential to make the current drive of ACC in curbing corruption fruitful.
In Chittagong, ACC is now investigating 108 matters on the basis of complaints against different persons and government officials including police, said the ACC director adding that reports on 68 of them have been submitted.
Sources said ACC here has so far filed 96 graft cases since January 11 in 2007 while charge sheets were submitted in 42 cases.
Informing about the shortage of manpower in ACC Chittagong region comprising 11 districts, Major Zulfikar said that 42 different posts out of 144 is vacant now but the process is going on to recruit more officials.
“Our main focus is to fill the vacant posts of assistant director and deputy assistant director,” he said.
Sources said, there are only 10 assistant directors for 16 posts and only six deputy assistant directors against 18 positions.
