Shark attack kills New Zealander

A New Zealand man was killed in a shark attack yesterday at a beach near Auckland, ambulance officers said.
The attack took place at Muriwai Beach, about 40 kilometres west of Auckland at about 2:00 pm, a St. John Ambulance spokeswoman said.
"The deceased is a 47-year-old male, that's all we've got at the moment," she told AFP.
Media reports said police shot the shark while attempting to rescue the victim, who had been swimming off the beach when the attack occurred.
