To generate awareness on the history of Liberation War, a programme titled “Mutijuddho Utshabâ€, was held at the premises of Mukul Niketan High School on February 23.
The daily Samokal and Shurid Samabesh, an organisation of the Bengali daily, jointly held the programme with the assistance of Liberation War Museum.
The daylong programme included a photo exhibition on Liberation War, a cultural programme and general knowledge quiz.
More than 300 students from eight educational institutions took part in written test on the history of the Liberation War in two groups. Of them, ten winners from two groups were awarded crests and certificates.
An exhibition with more than 100 photos on Liberation War was held at the event. Visitors belonging to different age groups and professions thronged the venue.
The artistes of Mukul Niketan Sangskritik Academy performed at a cultural show marking the festival.
A discussion was also held marking the festival. Vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Professor Dr. Rafiqul Haque, was the chief guest.
Principal of Govt. Ananda Mohan College Professor Mahbub Alam; principal of Royal Media College, Snehashish Dey; poet Farid Ahmed Dulal; journalist Mahbub Aziz; Sirajul Islam Abed; and poet Yeazdani Koraishi were the special guests.
Journalist Mir Golam Mustafa delivered the welcome speech.
Cultural activist and convener of Sammilito Sangskritik Jote, Professor Amir Ahmed Chowdhury Ratan, presided over the meeting.
The speakers were of the view that through a nine-month long brutal war, we achieved independence in 1971. Students who will lead the nation in future should know the authentic history of the country to make Bangladesh free from fundamentalism and anti-Liberation War forces.
If we fail to do so, the vested quarters will reap benefits and indulge in anti-state activities, the speakers added.
