Mob beats 8 'mistaking' them as robbers
A mob beat up eight people suspecting them as robbers at Nuhash Palli in Gazipur on Wednesday midnight.
The injured are Sultan Uddin, 40, his wife Jakia Sultana, 35, Imon, 13, Rubel Mia, 25, Rezaul Karim, 25, Sakib, 20, Tamim, 18, and Rony, 23. They hailed from Sreepur upazila in Gazipur.
Hotapara Police Camp In-charge Rafiqul Islam said Sultan, an industry owner, along with the other seven, went there to light candles at late writer Humayun Ahmed's grave.
Being obstructed by a security guard at the main gate of the Palli, they entered the gravesite jumping over the Palli's boundary wall.
Later, the employees there cried for help saying that robbers entered the place, said Rafiqul.
Locals rushed to the spot and beat up the eight severely.
They were undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
