Kader Siddiqui summoned by court
A Dhaka court yesterday issued summons asking Kader Siddiqui, acting president of Krishok Sramik Janata League, hours after a defamation case was filed against him for terming the home minister "a razakar".
Siddiqui will have to appear before the court on April 18 to explain his comment against the home minister.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saifur Rahman passed the order after a freedom fighter, Ruhul Amin, filed the case against Siddiqui on charge of terming Home Minister Dr Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir as a razakar.
In the complaint, Ruhul Amin said Siddiqui at a party conference at the capital's Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) on February 9 said the war crimes trial was not possible when "a razakar home minister" was in chair.
During the Liberation War in 1971, Dr Alamgir was an additional deputy commissioner of Mymensingh and he was against the Liberation War and “I was a witness to his role," Siddiqui said at the conference.
The comment has tarnished the image of the home minister as well as Ruhul Amin, as both of them are freedom fighters, the complainant said.
