Police SI closed for rape attempt

A police officer has been closed to the local police lines on charge of attempt to violate a housewife at Gobindapur village in Alamdanga upazila.
The departmental action was taken against Tipu Sultan, Sub Inspector (SI) of Alamdanga Police Station (PS) on Saturday night following order of police superintendent Abdur Rahim Shah Chowdhury after allegation against him was proved in primary investigation, Syed Abdullah, officer in-charge (OC) of Alamdanga PS, said.
The OC and the local people said that Tipu Sultan went to a house at the village on Friday evening to arrest an accused in a case and finding the housewife alone at home, he tried to violate her.
As the victim cried for help, her neighbours rushed in but the SI managed to escape before the villagers arrived on the spot, locals said.
"The villagers lodged a complaint with the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Chundanga zone who ordered to investigate the complaint", they said.
More action against the accused will be taken if rape charge against him is proved during further investigation, the OC informed.
