Online round a big hit
Students from across the country have been heavily playing the online game The Daily Star Spelling Bee contest at champs21.com for over a month now.
Champs21.com, the organisers, is preparing prizes for the top-10 schools from which the highest number of students register for the game.
So far, 4,155 students from 973 schools have registered and played the online game.
Sunnydale leads the pack with its students playing the game 20,252 times since the spelling contest went online.
Students of Anandaniketan School in Sylhet played 12,864 times followed by Maple Leaf International School 10,027 times, Scholastica 9,396 times, Sunbeams School 6,742 times, Shahan Int'l School Rangpur 5,224 times, Viqarunnisa Noon School 5,077 times, Oxford International School 5,074 times, and Mastermind International School 4,835 times.
Ishraq Haque of class-VII from William Carey Academy scored 481 with no close competitors. So far, he has played the game 145 times spending over 12 and a half hours.
However, Afifa Binte Islam, a student of class-X from Shaheed Bir Uttam Lt. Anwar Girls' College holds the record for playing the online game the most number of times, 1,387. She also has the record for playing the online game the longest, over 74 hours.
On an average, a student plays the game around 15 times spending just over half an hour.
Students between classes VI-X can take part in the contest registering with champs21.com.
The bulk of the qualifiers for the Divisional Round would be drawn from the online game.
Contestants can play the game as many times as they want and only their best score will be considered. The online round ends on February 28.
The winner of The Daily Star Spelling Bee powered by Horlicks contest gets Tk 5 lakh worth of education insurance from Metlife Alico and an all-expenses-paid trip to the USA.
The second and third runners-up would get Tk 3 lakh and Tk 2 lakh worth of education insurance.
