Assaulted, then OSD
Newly-appointed principal of Govt Brojo Mohan (BM) College Prof Shankar Chandra Dutt has been made an OSD on Thursday, two days after he was assaulted by a faction of the college unit BCL.
An education ministry order has asked Prof Shankar Chandra Dutt to join the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (DSHSE) as an officer on special duty (OSD) within February 18.
Prof Nazrul Islam, acting vice-principal of the college, yesterday said he learnt about the order from the website of the education ministry.
In the same order, Shankar's predecessor Prof Nani Gopal Das has also been made an OSD at the DSHSE.
On Tuesday, the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) assaulted Prof Shankar and forced him out of the campus when he went there to take charge.
The following day Prof Shankar lodged a general diary with Kotwali Police Station in this connection.
No case was lodged yet in connection with the assault on the teacher, said Kotwali police yesterday.
Sub-inspector Abu Taher of Kotwali PS filed a case against some BCL men for obstructing police in discharging their duties and arrested Shohag, Sohel, Jahirul and Mirajul as accused in the case.
All the academic activities at the college remained suspended since January 29 as the college unit BCL led by its joint conveners Moin Tushar and Nahid Serniabad have been protesting the transfer of former principal Nani Gopal Das, said campus sources.
