5 killed in road crashes
Five people were killed and 14 others injured in separate road accidents in Mymensingh and Jhalakathi yesterday.
Our Mymensingh correspondent reports, four people were killed and 13 others injured as a truck rammed a human hauler on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh yesterday morning.
The deceased were Fatema Khatun, 37, Halima Khatun, 27, of Talabar village; the human hauler driver Anamul, 20, of Bharachal village; and Rafiqul Islam, 44, of Purua village.
The dead, hailing from Bhaluka, were workers of different factories and were going to their workplaces, police said.
The accident occurred when the Mymensingh-bound truck hit the Bhaluka-bound human hauler near Seed Store Amtali area on the highway around 6:30am, said Motaleb Mia, officer-in-charge of Bhaluka Police Station.
Fatema and Halima succumbed to their injuries at Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex, the OC said.
Of the injured, seven were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, the police added.
Our Jhalakathi correspondent reports, a motorcyclist was killed and another injured as an oncoming bus hit his motorbike on Barisal-Khulna highway in front of Youth Development Training Centre in Jhalakathi sadar upazila yesterday afternoon.
The deceased was Mehedi Hasan Sayem, 25, son of Alamgir Hossen, of City Park area in the upazila.
Injured Mintu, 28, of the same area, was taken to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, said Abdul Mannan, officer-in-charge of Jhalakathi Sadar Police Station.
