Three people including a 12-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents in the capital's Duaripara, Hazaribagh and Paribagh areas yesterday.
In an incident, Rani Akhter, 20, a garment factory worker, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 2:00am.
Earlier on Thursday, she took poison following a quarrel with her mother at their residence, her cousin Md Sazu said.
In another incident, Babu Karmaker, 44, a worker at a goldsmith's shop in the capital's Paltan area, committed suicide by hanging himself with a scarf from a ceiling fan at his Hazaribag rented residence around 1:00pm, his son Akash Karmaker said.
Quoting family members, Hazaribagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Iqbal said Babu might have committed suicide out of his frustration.
He had been suffering from frustration for long days over financial loses in different business, he said.
Meanwhile, Mahmuda Akther, 12, a class III student, died at DMCH yesterday.
One of her neighbors, Mohammad Aman, who took her to the hospital, told doctors at DMCH that Mahmuda committed suicide by hanging herself with a scarf from a ceiling fan in a room of her residence.
Her father Kalam Khan, however, told journalists that Mahmuda was suffering from fever over the last three days, and her mother slapped her yesterday.
Doctors at DMCH said they found bruise marks around her neck, but they could not ascertain the reason behind death.
