Arrested youth confesses

A youth, who was arrested early yesterday from Bangshal in the capital, confessed to strangling a girl, Bristi, in a hotel of the area on Tuesday.
The arrested is Md Alkas alias Rizvi, 24, hailing from Nababganj in Dhaka.
The youth was arrested around 12:15am from Siddiq Bazar, said Harun-or-Rashid, deputy commissioner of police, Lalbagh division.
Alkas told the police that he developed a relationship with Bristi over phone around a year back and rented a room of the hotel on Tuesday, claiming themselves as husband and wife.
The next day, he came to know that Bristi, 24, was married with two children.
Later, the two got into heated arguments over the matter and, at one stage, Alkas strangled the girl around 9:00pm, he said.
On early Wednesday, police recovered Bristi's body from a room on the fourth floor of New Subhechchha International Hotel.
The body, bearing several injury marks, was wrapped in a bed sheet.
