<i>PM did a lot for us, now it's our turn</i>
Shorfuddin Ahmed Jhantu, who was sworn-in as first mayor of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) on February 5, took the charge of office yesterday.
Officers and employees of the city corporation accorded him a cordial reception and presented bouquet when he went to the office in the morning.
Jhauntu at the reception ceremony said “The prime minister did a lot for the welfare of Rangpur people, now it is our turn to offer her somethingâ€.
Ruhul Amin Khan, chief executive officer of RCC, presided over the function.
My first priority would be to ensure gas supply to the city for setting up industries and creating job market, said the mayor. He expressed his hope to turn Rangpur into a model city.
He also said that we would start the work of 4-lane and 65 feet road within next seven days.
Among others, Emdad Hossain, executive engineer of RCC, its secretary Akhtar Hossain Azad, councillors Shafiul Islam Shafi, Jahangir Alam Tota, Touhidul Islam and women reserved councillor Jafrin Islam Ripa, addressed the programme.
On June 28 last year, the government upgraded former Rangpur municipality, announcing it as the 10th city corporation in the country.
