Spelling Bee goes to Pabna, Jessore
The Daily Star Spelling Bee yesterday continued its activation rounds in Pabna and Jessore. The Pabna Cadet College and Jessore Zilla School fields played host to the event organised by Champs21.
In Pabna, the competition was intense. As a result, five spellers qualified for the divisional round instead of three. The qualifiers are Subroto Paul of class 10; Azmeer Rahman Sorder, Ishtiak Ahmed Herok and Abu Rafi Md Arif Rayhan of class 9; and Sarder Junaid Ahmed of class 8.
The contest was equally stiff in Jessore, where a zonal activation took place. Six students from 72 initial spellers moved on to the divisional round.
From Jessore Zilla School, three class 10 students -- Fahim, Dibyendu Biswas and Nahian Masu -- came out on top.
From Badshah Faisal Islami Institute, Rubaet Islam and Emage Ahammad, students of class 10, qualified. From Jessore Government Girls' High School, Fahmida Farzana Oeishi of class 9 got through to the next round.
Students of class 6-10 can take part in the contest by registering and playing the Spelling Bee game on champs21.com. The bulk of the qualifiers will be selected via the online game. Contestants can play the game to their heart's content and only their best score will be considered. The top scorers in the online game will qualify for the next round.
The online round ends on February 28.
The winner of the Spelling Bee gets Tk 5 lakh worth of education insurance from Metlife Alico and an all-expenses-paid trip to the USA. The second and third runners-up will get Tk 3 lakh and Tk 2 lakh worth of education insurance respectively.
