DoE fines power plant Tk 20 lakh

The Department of Environment (DoE) yesterday fined an under-construction power plant Tk 20.5 lakh for continuing its construction work in Patenga area of Chittagong without having environmental and site clearances.
Construction of Baraka Patenga Power Plant is seventy percent complete although it has no clearance from DoE, said sources in the department.
MK Safi Chowdhury, project director of the plant, said they got the government's permision to construct the plant in October last year.
