BCL protests principal's transfer, locks college gate

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists yesterday locked the main entrance to Dinajpur Government College protesting transfer of the college principal.
Prof Ahmed Hossain joined the college as principal on March 11, 2011. The education ministry on January 30 transferred him to Thakurgaon Government College as the chairman of Bangla department.
Though the ministry asked Prof Ahmed Hossain to take over the charge by 4:00pm yesterday, he did not join the college as of filing of this report at 5:00pm.
Prof Md Mokarram Hossain, chairman of Bangla department of Kustia Government College, has been made the principal of Dinajpur Government College. He is supposed to join the college today.
Demanding cancellation of the transfer order of the “principal of their choice,” the BCL activists also locked the office room of the principal so that the new one cannot join the college.
The BCL men threatened to continue their agitation until the transfer order of Prof Ahmed Hossain was withdrawn.
Contacted, Prof Hossain said he will comply with the ministry's order and join Thakurgaon Government College soon. Newly appointed principal Mokaram Hossain could not be contacted for his comment about the present situation on Dinajpur college campus.
