20 BCL activists at BVI punished
Twenty BCL activists at Barisal Veterinary Institute (BVI) were punished yesterday for attacking and injuring 20 people, including journalists and policemen.
The action was taken as they besieged the teachers and officials on campus from December 9-11, following appointments of office staffs and employees 'ignoring BCL recommendations'.
Sources said, following a probe committee report, the authorities took the decision at a special meeting of disciplinary committee on Sunday.
Of the punished students, nine were suspended from attending academic activities and the rest 11 from residing at the hostel for next one year.
Mehedi Hasan, BCL president, Didarul Islam, secretary, Mustafizur Rahman, Masud Rana Riaz, Riaz Al Mahmud, Sabbir Hosen, Amirul Islam Sohel, Mohshin Sikdar and Mijanur Rahman, all activists were suspended from academic activities for one year, BVI sources said.
The other 11 BCL activists, who were ousted from residential hostel for a year, are Rakibul Islam Rubel, Naim Aktar Polash, SM Tanvir Reza, Razib Nandei, Jayanto Das, Sourav Mallik, Yusuf Ali, Arafatul Islam Sushi, Shaon Haldar, Shariful Islam and Ariful Islam.
The punished students have already been served with notices to leave the campus and hostel within Tuesday, sources said.
During their programme, the BCL men clashed with police, leaving 20, including a few newsmen and six cops.
Police sued 40 activists and later arrested eight of them.
