Tribute to Ustad Syed Zakir Hossain
An audio album, titled “Tribute to Ustad Syed Zakir Hossainâ€, was launched at the main auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum on January 28. The album features 12 tracks (seven ghazal and five adhunik songs) including “Yeh Na Thi Hamari Qismatâ€, “Woh Jo Hum Mein Tum Mein Qarar Tha†and “Ibtada-e-Ishq†written by Mirza Ghalib, Momin Khan Momin and Mir Taqi Mir respectively. The late Ustad composed the original songs.
Three disciples of the Ustad -- Sadia Mosharraf, Sukla and Shamma Kareen -- recorded all the songs as a mark of tribute. Sharif Foundation produced the album. Syed Meher Hossain and Tanbeer Dawood Rony directed and arranged music for the album respectively.
State Minister for Power, Fuel, and Mineral Resources, Muhammad Enamul Huq, unveiled the album as chief guest while renowned singer Ustad Niaz Mohammad Chowdhury graced the function as special guest.
A musical soiree followed, with the artiste trio Shamma, Sadia and Sukla performing “Gham-e-Aasheque Se Keh Doâ€, “Koi Ummeedâ€, “Milakey Aankh Na†and other songs from the featured album.
Ustad Syed Zakir Hossain died on November 5 in 2011.
