86 BNP men sued for attack on AL leader
Eighty-six BNP activists were sued on Saturday on charge of attacking a local Awami League leader in Shayestabad union of Kawnia upazila on the previous day.
Moniruzzaman Monir, elder brother of bullet-injured AL leader Arifuzzaman Munna, chairman of Shayestabad union parishad, filed the case accusing the BNP activists at night, said Rafikul Islam, officer in-charge at Kawnia police station.
Of the accused, UP vice chairman Shahidul Islam alias Shamim Haolader, secretary of union BNP, was arrested on Sunday, said sub-inspector Murad, investigation officer (IO) of the case.
According to the case, a group of armed BNP men led by Shamim, his brothers Mamunur Rashid alias Khokon Master, Faruk Haolader and activist Farhad Hossain launched a gun attack on the UP chairman over political rivalry on Friday night.
Over 40 people were injured during the armed clash between the rival activists of BNP and Awami League. Of the injured, four people, including Munna, were hit by bullets.
