Shops, godowns gutted in fire
At least 31 shops and four jute godowns have been gutted in Lalmonirhat, Bhola and Gopalganj districts.
Eight shops were gutted at Station Road of Patgram upazila town in Lalmonirhat on Saturday, reports our correspondent.
Fire service men and locals said that the fire originated at a grocery shop due to electric short-circuit and soon spread to seven other adjoining shops including a jewelry, two fertiliser, two cosmetics and a medicine shop.
In Bhola, 23 shops were gutted as a fire broke out at Ilisha Junction Bazar under Sadar upazila early Thursday, reports a correspondent.
According to Bhola Fire Service officials, the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop at the bazar around 12:30am.
In Gopalganj, four jute godowns were burnt to ashes at Boalia Bazar under Kashiani upazila Saturday afternoon.
The affected godown owners are Ebad Kha, Hassan Ali, Abtab Ali and Miraj Mollah of Nurul Hoq Market at the bazar, reports a correspondent.
Sher Ali, former Awami League president of Fukra union, said at least 2,000 maunds of jute were burnt in the fire.
