BGMEA demands punishment to rapists
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has condemned the rape of a female worker on a running bus and demanded severe punishment to the perpetrators.
Voicing concern over the incident, BGMEA has requested the authorities concerned to ensure security in the garment industry zone.
In a press release yesterday, BGMEA said the incident has created a sense of fear among female workers.
The 18-year-old girl was raped on a running bus by the driver and his assistant and then thrown from the vehicle on Dhaka-Aricha highway on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred after all other passengers had got down at Manikganj bus station.
The law enforcers have arrested the driver, Dipu Miah, 30, and his assistant, Kashem Miah, 28. The duo has confessed to the crime during interrogation.
Meanwhile, other organisations including National Garment Workers Federation and Bangladesh Jubo Union have also protested the incident and demanded exemplary punishment to the criminals.
