Launching community scheme stressed
Speakers at an event yesterday urged the government and NGOs to launch community-based child protection programmes in the capital to prevent sexual harassment and deprivation of children.
One-fourth of slum children in Dhaka suffer from psychological problems, they said.
They were addressing the closing session of a two-day long conference and workshop titled "Psychological Support for Disadvantaged Children" organised by Aparajeyo Bangladesh and Association of Realisation of Basic Needs (ARBAN) at LGED Bhaban.
National Expert of Psychological Support Selim Chowdhury presented a keynote paper at the event.
"Disadvantaged and marginalised children suffer from psychological problems for various reasons like poverty, sexual abuse, and lack of education," he said.
"We should target their physical, social, economic and psychological well-being to ensure their holistic development," he added.
