A whirlpool of refined melody
Cultural organisation Shuddha Sangeet Proshar Goshthi (SSPG) arranged a three daylong (January 16-18) 44th winter classical music conference at Bishwa Shahitya Kendra. The conference, featuring both classical vocal and instrumental music performances, was divided into three sessions. Finance Secretary of SSPG Usha Rahman welcomed all and emceed the entire conference.
Renowned Ustad Badal Pramanik of Narail set off the music conference with a khayal performance on Raga "Shyam Kalyan" on January 16 evening. The session also featured a vocal music performance on Raga "Behag" by accomplished artiste Bizon Chandra Mistry, a jugalbandi khayal presentation on a spring time romantic raga "Madhubanti" by noted artiste Yakub Ali Khan and his son Yousuf Ahmed Khan and a sitar recital set on Raga "Chandra Nandan" by noted artiste Satyajit Chakrabarty.
Rendering a khayal on Raga "Yaman" Chowdhury Mostak Hossain began the second session of the conference on January 17. Arju Aktar Baby was next to take the stage. The promising artiste presented a khayal on Raga "Behag". Another khayal performance set on Raga "Bageshree" came next by emerging vocalist Maidul Islam. Renowned vocalist Karim Shahabuddin performed Raga "Jog" while Ranjit Roy presented a melancholic dhun based on Raga "Darbari Kanara" on his flute at that session.
Noted vocalist Mohammad Shoyeb set off the day long third session of the conference on January 18 morning. He presented a khayal set on Raga "Shudh Khayal". Promising vocalist Fayzul Haque Bijoy rendered Raga "Bhairo" while Jabeer Imam Khan Shahi rendered Raga "Shudh Vilawal" on the day.
Dr. Fakir Shahidul Islam Suman performed another khayal based on Raga "Bilashkhani Tori" while Aloke Kumar Sen mesmerised the audience with a khayal performance set on Raga "Mian Ki Tori".
Noted artiste Sheuli Bhattacharjee won the hearts of the audience with an evocative performance based on Raga "Jhinjhit" on her violin while talented vocalist Poojan Kumar Das presented a khayal on Raga "Patdwip". Renowned vocalist Ustad Anil Kumar Saha wrapped up the music conference with a captivating khayal performance based on Raga "Puria Kalyan".
