15,783 more fowls culled
More 15,783 chickens were culled and 19,402 eggs were destroyed in Sylhet, Narayanganj, Munshiganj and Jessore in the last two days.
With the culling, total number of culled chicken reached 1,239,093 while the number of destroyed eggs stands at 1,548,015 in the last 13 months since avian influenza was detected in the country.
About 8,109 chickens were culled and 19402 eggs were destroyed after bird flu was detected at three farms in Bandar upazila of Narayanganj in the last two days, reports our Narayanganj correspondent.
Livestock officials culled 2,265 chickens and destroyed 8,200 eggs at the KMP farm of Ehsanuddin on Wednesday night. Later, they culled 3,465 chickens and destroyed 6,712 eggs.
They also killed 2,495 chickens and destroyed 4,490 eggs at the farm of Hazi Afazuddin as it is located within one kilometre of the bird flu infected farm.
Out of 1,900 farms in Narayanganj, only 26 have been found infected with avian influenza so far, sources said.
Meanwhile, livestock officials culled about 7,500 chickens at two poultry farms at Tukerbazar in Sylhet on Wednesday night and yesterday, reported our staff correspondent from Sylhet.
Sources said over 300 chicks died at Salsabil Layer and Poultry farm close to the Kumargaon Bus stand in the last one week. When the owner of the farm informed the livestock officials about the matter, they collected samples of the dead fowls and sent those to the regional livestock laboratory in Sylhet for test.
It was confirmed on Wednesday that the fowls were infected with bird flu after the samples were tested at a laboratory in the capital.
After the confirmation, livestock officials culled about 3,500 chickens at the farm the same night.
They also killed about 4,000 chickens at nearby Bismillah Poultry Farm yesterday. The officials also culled chickens in some poultry shops and houses situated within one kilometre of the infected poultry farm.
Besides, 180 chickens were culled in Munshiganj while 494 chickens in Jessore following detection of avian influenza, bird flu control room sources said.
