8 traders held with 660 tolas of gold

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members last night arrested eight gold traders from the city's jewellery business hub Tantibazar and seized 660 tolas of gold worth about Tk 1.18 crore from their possession.
“We seized the gold as the arrested traders could not show any papers of the gold,” Flight Lt Humayun Kabir of Rab-10 told The Daily Star.
The arrested traders are Dulal Ghosh of KC Bullion Store, Mohammad Harun and Mohammad Nazrul Islam of Harun Bullion Store, Narayan Ghosh Tutul of Maa Gold House, Alok Das of Ajoy Bullion Store, Suranjit Sur, Sagor Ghosh and Sukumar Nandi of Tanmay Jewellers.
Kabir who led the drive said they had a tip-off that some gold smugglers have been operating in Tantibazar area. He said the arrested persons had been carrying out illegal gold trading for a long time.
Contacted, Sub-Inspector Sirajul Islam of Kotwali Police Station said they heard about the drive but none of the arrested was handed over to them.
