Australia welcomes polls by '08
Australia has welcomed the caretaker government's decision to hold elections in 2008 and looks forward to “productive relations” with Bangladesh.
In a letter to Foreign Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, new Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith referred to the "good relations" existing between the two countries.
He said the bilateral ties are based on "substantial development cooperation, people-to-people links and common interest in boosting two-way trade and investment”.
The new Australian foreign minister, in the letter, welcomed the caretaker government's commitment to hold elections in 2008 and said he looked forward to "productive relations" between the two countries.
Stephen Smith thanked Iftekhar for his "supportive sentiments" in an earlier correspondence.
