Thai hospital to help Square Hospital in treating heart patients
Bangkok Hospital Medical Centre (BMC), a leading hospital of Thailand, will provide technical support to Bangladeshi doctors under a bilateral healthcare technology agreement, said BMC representative in the city yesterday.
“A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the BMC and Square Hospital in this regard on Tuesday, and we have been providing technical support to the Centre for Specialised Care and Research (CSCR) in Chittagong since 2005,” said Bayezidur Rahman, chief executive officer (CEO) of BMC in Bangladesh, at a press conference at the National Press Club in the city.
He said under the MoU, physicians, surgeons and nurses of Square Hospital will be trained up.
Bayezidur said this has been made possible due to personal interest of Dr Kit V Arom, director of Bangkok Heart Hospital, who have performed many bypass surgeries on Bangladeshi patients in Bangkok.
During his treatment, Dr Arom realised that cardiac facilities in Bangladesh need to be updated so that the patients get the best treatment in their own country, he added.
Dr Arom, now on a two-day visit to Bangladesh, was also present at the press conference.
He said, “This is my second visit to Bangladesh and in the last three years I have seen many changes here.”
“I visited Square Hospital yesterday and saw the technologies and equipments there. I am confident that if the doctors and nurses get proper training, people of Bangladesh will get better treatment," he added.
He said Bangkok Heart Hospital is interested in imparting training to young cardiac physicians and surgeons of Bangladesh.
Bayezidur said Bangkok Hospital has been expanded to BMC and there are four specialised hospitals under BMC. Bangkok Heart Hospital is one of them, he added.
Replying to a question, he said in an average 470 patients travelled to Bangkok every month in the last six years.
About the cost in Bangkok Heart Hospital, he said it takes 480,000 baht for coronary artery bypass graft (set-A) and 590,000 baht for coronary artery bypass graft (set-B) surgeries.
Jane Bailey, regional marketing manger of BMC, made a video presentation on BMC at the press conference.
Shawkat Mahmud, president of the National Press Club, and Tawhid Iqbal, international marketing executive of BMC, were also present.
