4 out of 5 plants out of order
Twenty-one districts under West Zone Power Distribution Company Ltd (WZPDCL) have been reeling under severe power outages since last Friday due to closure of four out of five power plants at Goalpara Power Station (GPS).
GPS sources said the 110-MW plant has been out of order since February 29 due to technical glitch.
On the other hand, repairing work at 28-MW barge-mounted power plant is still going on. It went out of order due to fire accident on August 27 last year.
Besides, the 60-MW plant that went out of order on July 5, 2006 is also under repair.
Another barge-mounted power plant that became inoperative due to technical glitch since December 3 last year is likely to be withdrawn from GPS within next two months, said a reliable source of WZPDCL.
The sources said only 330 MW electricity was supplied against a total demand of 550 megawatt in 21 districts during peek hours on Tuesday night.
