AMTOB elects chair, vice chair for 2013

Michael Kuehner, chief executive officer of Robi, and Chris Tobit, CEO of Airtel, were elected as chairman and vice-chairman respectively of the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh for 2013, the AMTOB said in a statement yesterday.
AMTOB, a platform of the country's all six mobile operators, announced the association's executive council for one year.
Kuehner and Tobit will replace Mehboob Chowdhury, CEO of Pacific Bangladesh Telecom Ltd (Citycell), and Tore Johnsen, CEO of Grameenphone.
“The telecom sector continues to make a substantial contribution to the economy, the socio-economic development of this country and towards the development of a digital Bangladesh,†said Kuehner, a 30-year veteran of the ICT/Mobile Service Provider industry.
He added that “a healthy business environment is critical for this to continueâ€.
Tobit, who brings with him over 25 years of experience in the field of telecommunication, said: “The telecom industry in Bangladesh can play an important role in strengthening the socio-economic backbone of the country.â€
"Towards this, the industry needs to collaborate and create a market environment where AMTOB can work as a catalyst in shaping developments that are beneficial to both operators and customers alike,†he added.
