Anti-corruption cartoons and photographs on the Liberation War
An exhibition of anti-corruption cartoons and photographs on the War of Liberation drew a huge crowd cutting across all ages on the concluding day of the exhibition December 17.
Concerned Citizens Committee (CCC) Transparency International, Bangladesh (TIB) organised the two- day exhibition, titled "Cartoon Exhibition on Anti-corruption and Photographs on War of Liberation", at Railway Station Krishnachura Square marking the 41st anniversary of the country's independence.
YES (Youth Engagement and Supports) group members of TIB assisted the exhibition.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Prof Mokarram Hussein, convener of Concerned Citizens Committee of TIB, Mymensingh unit on December 16, and concluded on December 17. It was the fourth such exhibition by TIB at the same venue.
Some 22 cartoons collected through different competitions organised by TIB in Dhaka and different districts of the country were on display at the exhibition.
More than 160 rare photographs on the Liberation War drew the attention of the people, mainly the younger generation, said Shafiqul Islam.
Five films- "Joy Jatra", "Muktir Gaan", "Lal Sobuj", "Aghuner Paroshmoni" and "Antar Jatra" were screened in the evening during the exhibition. Hundreds of cartoons on corruption were also screened at the exhibition.
Abdul Mannan, a retired government servant said, “We witnessed the Liberation War and the photographs taken during the war still help us recollect those momentous times. The new generation that has very little idea about the war will benefit greatly by viewing the photographs and cartoons at the exhibition.â€
Abdul Latif, a car driver of the town said, “Corruption, a serious menace is deeply rooted in every sector of the country and such exhibitions would help generate awareness about corruption among the masses.â€
Habibur Rahman Chowdhury, area manager of TIB, said, “Through such exhibitions people from all sections of society learn about the ongoing phenomenon of corruption. When they view the pictures on corruption and War of Liberation at such exhibitions they become enthused to end corruption and are imbued with a patriotic spirit. The huge rush of visitors during the exhibition proved that people do not support corruption and they want to be freed from the clutches of corruption.â€
