Work of 3rd sea port to start next year
The construction work of the proposed third sea port at Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali would start from next year, said Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan yesterday.
He was addressing as chief guest a public meeting at Charipara Government Primary School in Lalua union under Kalapara upazila yesterday.
Surveys conducted on the proposed project showed setting up of a sea port in the area to be feasible, he said.
The sea port would also generate employment for thousands of people, he added.
State Minister for Water Resources Md Mahbubur Rahman, Chittagong Port Authority Chairman Real Admiral Nizam Uddin Ahmed, BIWTA Chairman Shamsuddoha Khandker, Shipping Secretary Syed Monjurul Islam, Mayor of Kalapara municipality SM Rakibul Ahsan, also addressed the meeting chaired by Lalua UP Chairman Rezaul Karim Biswas.
The port is proposed to be set up in the upazila's Charipara area, at the mouth of Andhar Manik and Ramnabad rivers, both adjacent to the Bay of Bengal.
