Maintain chain of command
President Zillur Rahman yesterday asked all army officers of the ranks of major general and above to play constitutional role through maintaining chain of command within the force.
"You are the highest level of officers in Bangladesh Army, it is a must to play constitutional responsibility through maintaining chain of command properly," he told the Generals' Conference of Bangladesh Army at the officers' mess at Dhaka Cantonment.
Chief of Army Staff General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan gave the welcome speech while Prime Minister's Defence Adviser Tariq Ahmed Siddique was present. All lieutenant generals and major generals of the Bangladesh Army attended the conference.
The president, who is also Supreme Commander of Armed Forces, said dynamic leadership, respect to each other and firm confidence towards leadership of the generals would make important contribution in development and advancement of the Bangladesh Army.
"The responsibilities of maintaining internal discipline of the force, including all the cantonments as well as ensuring development of army have been bestowed upon you," he said, adding, "You will keep a watchful eye at every level from the general soldier to the highest rank," he said.
Pointing out the "Forces Goal-2030" taken in line with the defence policy, he said, "I firmly believe that Bangladesh Army would be built into a modern and skilled force after implementation of this work plan."
The president thanked the Bangladesh Army for contributing in national development, including infrastructure construction, preparing voter identity cards and improving disaster preparedness.
Earlier in another ceremony, State Minister for Liberation War Affairs ABM Tajul Islam adorned Victory Day Commemoration Pin to the president while the army chief handed over Victory Day Commemoration Crest on the theme of this year's Victory Day.
For the first time this year, the Bangladesh Army and the liberation war affairs ministry have selected a theme titled "Bijoy theke Bijoyee" (victory to victory) to celebrate this year's Victory Day.
