Over 50 shops gutted in three districts
Separate incidents of fire gutted over 50 shops in Narail, Khagrachhari and Chandpur district on Friday night
Our Narail correspondent reported that least 20 shops at Lohagara Bazar under Lohagara municipality were destroyed by a fire.
Shop owners said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a cosmetic shop at around 8:00 pm and soon engulfed the adjacent shops.
On information, fire fighters from Narail Sadar station rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze with the help of local people after three hours of frantic efforts.
Affected shop owners claimed that goods worth more than Tk 3 core were gutted in the fire.
In Khagrachhari, Fire originated from an electric short circuit at a tea stall of one Ruhul Amin at Khagrachhari Bazar at around 10:00pm and soon engulfed the adjacent 17 shops, reports our correspondent.
Being informed, fire fighters from local fire service station rushed to the bazar and brought the blaze under control with the help of local people at around 11:00pm.
The affected shop owners claimed that the extent of loss could go up to Tk 2 crore as six jewellery shops were completely gutted in the fire.
UNB from Chandpur adds: At least 18 shops were gutted in a fire at Madhupur Bazar in Kochua upazila on Friday night.
Fire station and local sources said the fire originated from a mosquito coil at a shop at around 10.00pm and soon spread to 17 other adjoining shops.
On information, a fire service unit from Kochua Sadar upazila went to the bazaar and extinguished the fire after two hours of efforts with the help of local people.
Five people sustained burn injuries while they were trying to extinguish the blaze. They are undergoing treatment at Kochua Upazila Health Complex.
The affected shop owners claimed that the extent of loss in the fire could be more than Tk 1.50 crore.
In Chapainawabganj, A devastating fire that broke out at Old Bazar in the district town on Friday evening burned down storeroom of a bakery.
Wahidul Islam, a fire service and civil defense official, said the fire had originated from an electric short circuit at the storeroom of the bakery owned by Masud Rana in the area.
Police said locals informed the fire service at about 5:00pm.
Later, three fire fighting units from Chapainawabganj town rushed in and doused the blaze after three hours of frantic efforts with the help of local people.
The affected bakery owner claimed the extent of loss in the fire could be more than Tk 23 lakh.
