Resist Jamaat-Shibir at every neighbourhood
The country's women must build resistance at every neighbourhood and locality against Jamaat-Shibir as women will be adversely affected the most if communal and militant forces rise in Bangladesh, said discussants at a roundtable yesterday.
Women are now playing a significant role in the country's socio-economic development. If not resisted, communal forces will confine women indoors and violate their rights, they said.
Bangladesh Nari Mukti Sangha organised the roundtable, “Expedite the trial of 1971 war criminals, killers and torturers of women: Ban religion-based political partiesâ€, in Dhaka Reporters Unity, chaired by the sangha President Hazera Sultana.
Workers' Party of Bangladesh President Rashed Khan Menon said women must remain alert about communal and fundamentalist conspiracies.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and pro-Jamaat student organisation Islami Chhatra Shibir are trying to spread their ideology at every household through women, warned the lawmaker.
He urged women to join a national convention called by 15 eminent citizens in Dhaka on December 8 to resist communal and fundamentalist forces.
Prof Mesbah Kamal of Dhaka University's history department said women should come forward to resist communal forces as it is the major barrier to the empowerment and development of women.
Rokeya Kabir said if the trial was not completed, communal forces would curb rights of women.
