“Gulaab Gang”

Times are changing. Way back in the 1990s, any film producer would have found it impossible to bring former Bollywood heartthrobs Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla to share screen space, as late director Yash Chopra did in the 1990s when he made the hit film “Dil To Pagal Hai”.
When the role played by Karisma Kapoor in “Dil To Pagal Hai”, also starring Shahrukh Khan, was offered to Juhi Chawla at the time, the latter declined as she was unsure how much screen space she would get with Madhuri who plays the main lead role in it. Call it professional rivalry, if you want to, but today, 15 years down the line, you will get a chance to see both in a different sort of face-off in filmmaker Anubhav Sinha's forthcoming film, “Gulaab Gang”.
In the proposed action film, Madhuri and Juhi are leaders of two rival gangs of women which take up the cause of injustices done to women in the form of domestic violence, sexual harassment and dowry in a setting in India's largest state of Uttar Pradesh.
While Sinha had roped in Madhuri sometime ago, Juhi was brought into the cast after several rounds of negotiations. This is for the first time the two are acting in the same film.
“Gulab Gang” director Soumit Sen said, “It took us a long time to figure out who we wanted. And when we thought of Juhi, it seemed perfect”.
Sen, who had directed “RA. One” (2001) starring Shahrukh Khan, said the shooting for “Gulab Gang” would begin in December this year.
