University student 'killed by friends'
A private university student was killed allegedly by his friends at his apartment in the capital's Mirpur-6 on Wednesday.
The alleged killers also looted gold and cash.
Police recovered the body of Amit Saha, 20, a BBA student at Eastern University, from his residence early yesterday.
The law enforcers also arrested three of Amit's friends and recovered the looted goods from them.
Pallabi police said the arrested three--Ashraf Ahmed Shihab, 24, Ruhul Amin, 22, and Al-Amin Pintu, 21--confessed to the killing.
Amit was killed sometime between 2:00pm and 11:00pm on Wednesday.
Amit's maternal uncle Kishan Saha said he was staying with Amit as his parents and younger brother were visiting Kolkata.
Around 9:00pm Wednesday, he called Amit by phone to come down and unlock the gate but received no response, he said.
When he managed to enter the apartment with the help of a woman, he found Amit lying on the bed, his neck tied to the ceiling fan, he said.
Meanwhile, Rupnagar police recovered the body of a jhut trader from a vacant plot inside Rupnagar Eastern Housing yesterday.
The victim, Mohammad Ramzan, 32, who lived near Pallabi, was found with his legs tied and a piece of cloth fastened around his neck.
