Road crashes kill 6, injure 68
Six people were killed and 68 others injured in separate road accidents in Chittagong, Gopalganj, Jhenidah and Dinajpur yesterday.
A correspondent from Gopalganj reports, three workers were killed and 68 others injured as a bus plunged into Modhumoti bil route canal beside Gopalganj-Tekerhat road near Padmabila village in Gopalganj sadar upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased were identified as Saharul Islam, 16, Rahim Mollik, 38 and Kawsar Moral, 28.
Police said the Sylhet-bound passenger bus of Shatabdi Paribahan fell into the canal while it was giving side to a truck in the area at about 9:00am, killing the three instantly and injuring the 68.
Of the injured, eight were admitted to Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital while the others were taken to different clinics in the town.
The bus driver was absconding.
Our staff correspondent from Chittagong reports, a day labourer was killed as a truck ran him over in Seamens Hostel area under Bandar Police Station of Chittagong city yesterday morning.
The deceased was Abdul Barek, 35, son of Kala Mia of Char Mongla in Charfashion of Bhola district.
Bandar Police Station Sub-Inspector said the truck crushed him while he was walking beside the road.
Our Jhenidah correspondent reports, a rickshaw-van puller died as a truck overturned on the van on Jhenidah-Jessore road near Bejpara bus stand in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenidah district yesterday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Abdur Rahman Kalu, 60, of Bejpara village of the upazila.
Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sayed Kamruzzaman said the vegetables-laden truck turned turtle on the van while Kalu was going to Kaliganj Bazar with his van at around 3:30pm.
Our Dinajpur correspondent reports, a schoolboy died instantly as a speeding truck hit him from behind on Bochaganj-Pirganj road near Soya Bridge in Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur yesterday morning.
The deceased Shyamal Chandra Roy, 12, son of Dharani Chandra Roy of village Kismat Dawlatpur in the upazila, was a class VII student of Dawlatpur Dwi-Mukhi High School.
